Dr. Sketchy's Anti Art School - 9.23.2012

Only mustered a few drawings because that was all I could pull out of me.

Enjoy the pics showing the model as Edie Sedgwick and Nico.

Day 23 - Winged

Yup. This one is out of sequence. She was a quickie as I waited for Dr Sketchy's to begin.

I can do it.
It doesn't have to be perfect.
Just continue the process....

I may be behind a few... strike that, a lot of days but not out of the challenge yet.

My friends are still in the game. One is devoted to kicking out a drawing once a day. Another is in catch up mode. Both are nailing it each step of the way. My brothers in this challenge....

Day 6 - Spider (Unfinished)

Sometimes you just want to do your best. And sometimes that just takes time.
I've been drawing but I'm noticing lethargy in my performance. That just won't do.

I started this one and the drawing for Day 7 on the ride home from my sister's house in Illinois. The weekend was well spent with my immediate family. All of my family. This is a rare thing.
It felt good but there was the underlying worry about my sister's health. Definitely
grateful that she has a good man by her side.

I brought drawing materials but didn't expect to get much drawing done. The spider's trinkets
kind of mirror what my younger cousin was looking at in magazines and at the mall.

It is unfinished because I am behind in getting the other 30 day drawings done!

Day 5 - Mermaid

Who butters a pop tart? I feel ill. Some things I should not listen to.

Last night, I was up waaay too late then I just couldn't sleep. Tossing and turning, aware that I was awake but not really. I didn't focus on the alarm clock but felt the disgust when it went off.

New changes have been worrisome and stressful. Once I reached home, I wanted to go right to bed. However, I knew if I delayed my drawing any longer I wouldn't get back on track.

It is hard to keep the pace but I am trying my hardest to stay the course.
Good night, sleep dreams.

Day 4 - Bigfoot/Abominable Snowman

Note to self: stop being lazy and use a camera with a flash. This is ridiculous.
iPod Touch has a "camera" but it isn't as great as the iPhone camera. And of course
no flash....

I just added myself to Instagram, but I have no photos loaded. Personally,
my photos, flash or no flash, are still crappy. Photography class in the distant
future fo sho.

Day 3 : Slime

Day 3. The slime girl. Eh.

Well I did get to see a friend's take on the slime girl character, and he hit it out of the park. His girl was crawling and melting into the floor. He did such a great job, I had no idea how to handle slime.

Back when I was younger, I attempted to watch "You Can't Do That On Television" on Nickelodeon but the channel was scrambled. Once I heard Moose say "I don't know" she would be doused with a heaping bucket of green slime. Eventually, I did see it unscrambled in time to witness a young Alanis Morrisette get slimed long before it became "a thing" at a kids awards show.

My point was I couldn't really recollect how slime behaves. It is hard to look at an image and just create it. I really needed actual ooze to study. I'm sure there is a ton in my house but that might not be the kind I want to play with.

So I went for more of a design than a concept. And I probably should have gone with my slimy roaring 20's idea but...oh well. It is done. We press on....

Next .... Bigfoot / Abominable Snowperson?  Oy!

Day 2 : Centaur

A Day 2 drawing was really a Day 3 for me. We had to conquer a Centaur. (We meaning me and a couple other local art friends as well as one twitter friend.)

It was a bit of a challenge to get this done with the holiday and all. When I thought Centaur, I thought carousel horse and burlesque. (More accurately, Dita Von Tesse.) I've never focused on drawing a horse before, so I just used a how to draw animals book to get the bottom half completed. The lady parts were all from my imagination....

Drawing girl characters is my forte, however drawing everyday with fresh ideas is a challenge.

Day 1 : Harpy

30 Day Challenge : Girl Character

Day 1 : Harpy

The biggest thing for me is to "not over think" a drawing. My head says "this isn't perfect" and my hand says "get it down already!!" Always a little conflict of interest during the process.

When looking into the background of a Harpy online, I stumbled upon a story on the endangered Harpy Eagle in Panama. Since I grew up in the states, I felt a disconnect with Panama which makes up half my heritage. I attempted to incorporate some characteristics of the eagle into the character.

The taped lips was something that was a play on "harpy" as an adjective as well as to mimic the current feeling with the political atmosphere. (You know about the whole stripping away the rights of women BS, right?) The atmosphere has cracks and we are doing our best to hold it together....

Politics and art is something that I feel I cannot combine consciously.

This drawing challenge isn't about making a perfect drawing. It is about the discipline to commit to drawing on a regular basis.

Stop thinking about drawing, then draw.

30 Day Challenge - Girl Character (September)

Hey anyone out there. I'm still here.

I just wrapped up a college class from last semester so I got a little time back to draw again.
Unfortunately, I am not going to Chicago for the Labor Day Marathon draw at Palette and Chisel this year. I'm sure I'll find some other time to sneak into Chi Town to draw before the year is out.

I can't believe the last time I posted a drawing was May! Doodles are here and there but I gave you nothing.

To make up for a lack of postings, I am attempting the 30 Day Challenge for Girl Characters.....

The now

A job found. A chance to take a college course. A challenge finding balance in current change of events.

Routine needs improvement. Move from house desired but move from hometown not.

Year almost halfway. Still have some other goals to tend too....
